Reflections on My Learning Journey in GES1011/GESS1009 - The Evolution of a Global City-State
This blog post reflects on my learning journey throughout the GES1011/GESS1009 module at National University of Singapore (NUS).
As part of the course, I explored Singapore's unique historical, cultural, and urban identity through lectures, site visits, and interdisciplinary discussions. These experiences allowed me to analyze the nuanced relationship between the past and the present while thinking critically about how history shapes our modern world.
The Learning Journal I’ve included here (available in PDF format) encapsulates my reflections and insights gathered throughout the course. It is organized into thematic sections that trace my evolving perspectives—from initial impressions to deeper explorations of cultural memory, identity-building, and urban transformation. By connecting course content with broader societal implications, this journal represents a meaningful synthesis of my academic engagement and personal growth.
To complement the journal, I’ve also included images and visuals from my entries that illustrate key themes discussed in the module. These visuals serve as an extension of my reflections, offering a glimpse into the layers of meaning I encountered during this journey.
I hope these materials not only showcase the learning outcomes of this course but also inspire others to think about the rich interplay between history, culture, and modernity. Whether you’re a student, an educator, or someone curious about Singapore’s multifaceted identity, I invite you to explore and engage with these reflections.
