Four Junzi 四君子 梅兰竹菊

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

In Chinese art, the Four Gentlemen or Four Noble Ones, literally meaning "Four Junzi", is a collective term referring to four plants: the plum blossom, the orchid, the bamboo, and the chrysanthemum (梅兰竹菊). The term compares the four plants to Confucian junzi, or "gentlemen". (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Gentlemen)

The following artworks are completed during June and July, 2022. The last one was completed on July 15, 2022, and each artwork takes around 6 hours to complete (including sketching, practicing, redrawing, etc.). They can also be viewed in "Artwork"-"Chinese Brush Painting" on this website.

The artworks (45cm x 113cm) are soon to be put in glass frames, hung on the wall, and exhibited at the concourse of my school from July 23, 2022 (College Day) onwards as part of a self-initiated Chinese Art Exhibition in hopes of letting more guests, teachers, and fellow students learn more about and appreciate Chinese culture.

Here is how it looks on campus:
